By the age of 5-years-old, Mozhdah and her family fled to Canada to escape the war-torn country of Afghanistan. As her family established a new home in the Great White North, she turned to music as her inspiration to forget what she left behind. While studying at the University of British Columbia, she wrote and sang her first-ever hit titled Afghan Girl which became an instant hit in her native country.
